sea cucumbers

bintan banyan tree is a lovely lovely place. there's something to be said about getting away with the girl of your dreams and living in your very own villa (built in jacuzzi), and perhaps the best thing that can be said is to say nowt at all. hmmm. ronan keating sung that in the nottinghill movie and i'm embarassed i know this.

(incidentally, i was drafting something like 4 paragraphs worth when the whole webpage hung so it's a little painstaking to hafta write something at all.)

L. and I think that's a sea cucumber. these marine animals are highly prized in Asian culture but from what we saw, they don't seem to be in danger of overexploitation or extinction. there were everywhere in the low tide waters of bintan, seemingly just mucking about. or maybe they weren't just mucking about. maybe it was mating season and they were hanging out to see which was longer/bigger... hey i wouldn't be surprised, happens to the best of us. *smirk*

in fact. i just googled and found out that these creatures are asexual. i think that means they can't do it. SAD. and they breathe through their anus, i kid you not. read article here. DOUBLE SAD. imagine breathing through your own... i can't even bring myself to say it. the more i write this, the more i feel sorry for sea cucumbers. i better stop then.
